About Jerry Simoneaux

Judge_Photo.jpgJudge Jerry Simoneaux is running for Judge of Harris County Probate Court 1, which is one of four courts in Harris County that hear cases involving the probate of wills, the establishment of trusts and guardianships for people who are not able to care for themselves, and the litigation that may arise in those situations.

Judge Simoneaux understands that good judges are the last line of defense against financial abuses in guardianships and decedent's estates.  As Judge of Probate Court 1, he will work hard to protect the most vulnerable among us and ensure that each and every person before the court is treated equally and with respect and dignity.

Experienced:   Judge Simoneaux has broad experience in probate law and litigation.  As a private practice attorney, he has represented clients in over 200 cases in probate, civil litigation, and tax matters, including intermediate courts of appeals and the Texas Supreme Court.   He has also served on the other side of the bench as a staff attorney for a probate court judge and most recently as an Associate Judge of the Houston Municipal Courts.

Knowledgeable: Judge Simoneaux graduated from the University of Houston in 1997 earning two concurrent degrees: a bachelor of business administration and a bachelor of arts in French.  He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from South Texas College of Law in 2001.  For more than 15 years, Judge Simoneaux has regularly spoken at seminars and continuing education courses throughout Texas on issues that may arise in probate courts.  He is a published author and a past Adjunct Professor of Law at South Texas College of Law.

Trusted:  In 2008, Judge Kathleen Stone of Probate Court 1 hand-selected Jerry Simoneaux to be her staff attorney to assist her on guardianship matters.  In 2015, Houston Mayor Annise Parker appointed him as Associate Judge in the Houston Municipal Courts.  Houston City Council unanimously confirmed his appointment.  He also received an appointment in the business sector when the Texas State Legislature appointed him as a director of the Montrose Business District in 2005 (HB 3518, 79th Regular Session) and Houston Mayor Bill White reappointed him in 2009.

Judge Simoneaux has the highest AVVO rating of 10.0 in litigation, estate planning, and guardianships.
