Judge Jerry Simoneaux is running for Judge of Harris County Probate Court 1, which is one of four courts in Harris County that hears cases involving the probate of wills, the establishment of trusts and guardianships for people who are not able to care for themselves, and the litigation that may arise in those situations.
Judge Simoneaux has the skills and vision to improve the courts for the attorneys who practice in them and the people whose cases are heard there. Respect for people's time, efficient handling of court documents, an improved transparent system for court appointments of professionals, and greater oversight of court-supervised estates are among his priorities. Experienced: Judge Simoneaux has extensive experience in probate law, litigation, and appeals. As a private practice attorney, he has represented clients in over 200 cases in probate, civil litigation, and tax matters, including intermediate courts of appeals and the Texas Supreme Court. He has also served on the other side of the bench as a staff attorney for a probate court judge and more recently as an Associate Judge of the Houston Municipal Courts.
Knowledgeable: Judge Simoneaux graduated from the University of Houston in 1997 earning two concurrent degrees: a Bachelor of Business Administration in management and a Bachelor of Arts in French. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from South Texas College of Law in 2001. For more than 15 years, Judge Simoneaux has regularly spoken at seminars and continuing education courses throughout Texas on issues that may arise in probate courts. He is a published author and a past Adjunct Professor of Law at South Texas College of Law. His cases have been cited by O'Connor's Texas Civil Rules Civil Trials and Johanson's Texas Estates Codes Annotated as instructive on complex areas of law.
Trusted: In 2008, Judge Kathleen Stone of Probate Court 1 hand-selected Jerry Simoneaux to be her staff attorney. In 2015, Houston Mayor Annise Parker appointed him as Associate Judge in the Houston Municipal Courts. Houston City Council affirmed his appointment unanimously. He was reappointed in 2018 by Mayor Sylvester Turner, again with unanimous confirmation by Houston City Council.
In 2005, Jerry Simoneaux received an appointment in the business sector when the Texas State Legislature appointed him as a director of the Montrose Business District (HB 3518, 79th Regular Session) and Houston Mayor Bill White reappointed him in 2009.
